Ring sizing is more nuanced than most people realize. A ring can be resized up by stretching the shank for small increments or by adding metal for larger changes, and sized down by removing a section of the shank and soldering it closed. The method depends on the size of the adjustment, the metal type, the design of the band, and whether the ring contains channel-set stones, etching, or engraving that must be preserved through the process.

At Wise Family Jewelers, every resize is evaluated individually before any work begins. We assess the construction of the ring, discuss the adjustment needed, and advise you honestly if a particular resize carries any risk to the design. Resizing is performed in-house by hand, and we take care to maintain the integrity of any engraving, milgrain detail, or finish on the original band. Done properly, a resized ring is indistinguishable from the original.
