Pearl And Bead Restringing

Wise Family Quality Jewelers is proud to offer the following jewelry services:

Learn about Pearl & Bead Restringing

Pearl and bead necklaces are strung on silk or nylon cord that weakens naturally over time through wear, exposure to perfume, and contact with skin oils. Most jewelers recommend restringing every one to two years for pieces worn regularly. A single break on an unstrung strand can scatter beads across a floor, and some of those beads may never be recovered.

The proper method for restringing pearls involves knotting individually between each bead. This serves two purposes. First, it prevents all the beads from sliding off if the strand breaks. Second, it keeps the beads from rubbing against one another, which can cause surface damage over time on organic gems like pearls and coral. At Wise Family Jewelers, we restring by hand using quality silk cord, matching the weight and color to the original strand wherever possible.
